How a house call works

About 30 seconds, start to finish.

  1. Snap it

Take up to three photos. A close-up plus one wider shot works best.

  2. Tell us what's going on

Optional, but a sentence helps: when it started, what it sounds or smells like, what you've tried.

  3. Get the diagnosis

Likely cause, how urgent, DIY or pro, steps, parts with prices, a fair pro price, and what to tell the pro.

Symptoms we see every day

If it's in your house, we'll take a look.

Already have a quote?

Snap it. We'll list what's missing, flag things like a big deposit or no license number, and tell you if the price is in a typical range.

Check a quote

Triage, like a real doctor

We tell you how worried to be. Honestly.

  1. Cosmetic

    Looks bad, isn't hurting anything.

  2. Fix soon

Will get worse, or cost more, if you wait.

  3. Urgent

Deal with it in the next day or two.

  4. Stop & call a pro

Gas, sparks, water near wiring, sagging ceilings, CO alarms. Every time.

Questions, answered

The short version: a photo, 30 seconds, and an honest answer about how worried to be.

What is Home Doctor?

Home Doctor is a web app that diagnoses household problems from a photo: what it is, how urgent it is, whether you can fix it yourself, what parts to buy, and what a pro should charge. Take or upload up to three photos, add a sentence about what's going on, and get a structured answer in about 30 seconds.

What kinds of problems can it diagnose?

Plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, walls and paint, roofs and gutters, appliances, doors and windows, and outdoor problems: leaks, drips, cracks, stains, strange noises, dead outlets, tripping breakers and more.

Is Home Doctor free?

Your first diagnosis and your first quote check are free and don't need an account. Creating an account starts a 7-day free trial, no card needed. After that it's $9.99/month or $69.99/year, and you can cancel anytime.

How accurate is a diagnosis from a photo?

It's a well-informed starting point, not a guarantee. Each diagnosis comes with a confidence level, other possible causes and how to tell them apart, and follow-up questions when a photo isn't enough. It tells you plainly when something needs a professional to see it in person.

Will it tell me if something is dangerous?

Yes. A gas smell, sparking or burning, water near electrical, a sagging ceiling or structure, and carbon monoxide alarms always get "Stop and call a pro now", with the safety steps to take first. If you smell gas or see smoke, leave and call 911 or your gas utility before anything else.

Does it tell me what a repair should cost?

Yes. You get the parts with price ranges and store search links for DIY, and a typical price range for hiring a pro, so you know what's fair before you call anyone.

Can Home Doctor check a contractor's quote?

Yes. Photograph the quote and Home Doctor lists what it covers and what's missing, flags things like a deposit over 30% or no license number, and tells you whether the price falls within a typical range.

What happens to my photos?

Photos are resized and re-encoded on your phone before upload, which strips location data. They're stored privately and only your account, or your browser before you sign up, can open them.
